Help support the Kickstarter for the publication of an iconic photo book featuring the best documented account of 1970s and 80s Nahanni Reforestation in British Columbia. Our friend Nahanni Arntsen is the publisher and daughter of Daniel James who single handedly documented his time spent treeplanting in Bristish Columbia. 

Treeplanting got it's start in the early 1970's after logging practices in British Columbia were leaving large swaths of bare earth that had little to no regeneration. The duty was first deligated to the loggers wives, to go in and replant the seeds where the clearcuts had taken place. After this proved insufficiant, forestry companies started offering up reforesting contracts and a group of young hippies took those contracts and started treeplanting.They hauled in all supplies need to sustain and months at a time and up primative camping sites on location of the planting.

Nahanni Arntzen was born in a teepee on a sandbar 9 miles up the Kingcome river on the west coast of British Columbia. It was the first treeplanting contract her parents were hired for, they were 19 and 20 years old at the time. Nahanni's dad, Daniel James, delivered her into his dirty hands and her mother, Jenny, was back planting within a few days.

A few years ago Nahanni was looking for a photographs of herself as a child to show her young daughter. She asked her dad if he had any, to which he answered by dropping off a large bag full of trays and trays of slides that he shot while during his treeplanting contractor days in the 70's and 80's. Most of her time spent in camps were warm fuzzy memories of dogs, riding in the back of trucks, sleeping in tree boxes, stealing mouthfuls of icing while the cooks weren't looking, late night fires and early morning rain. When Nahanni scanned the slides, it was apparent that her dad had a full documentation of life in his camps. Over the last year Nahanni has been sorting through his slides and posting them on Instagram @nahannireforestation

Now she is hoping to make a book and with your help she can!

The money raised from this Kickstarter will directly fund the first edition publication of the book. The goal reflects cost of layout and the minimum order needed for it to get published. It will be a hardcover, 8x12, offset printed, in the USA.
